nanoAnt: a living formicarium (Linux)

Run ./nanoant-native for the bespoke borderless 2D/2.5D formicarium, beginning
with the loading splash and title screen. Choose New Real World or New Sandbox
World for the complete setup route; Starter Help explains the instruments
without imposing a tutorial. FORMICARIUM provides direct Hand, excavation,
substrate, food, water, predator, disease and hazard controls. The visible TYPE
HERE field provides optional precise commands.

The package runs from the folder you choose. To add it to this user's Linux
application menu, run `python3 linux-desktop-integration.py install` from that
folder. This optional step requires Python 3 and writes only
`$XDG_DATA_HOME/applications/nanoant-portable.desktop` (or
`$HOME/.local/share/applications/nanoant-portable.desktop`). Run the same script
with `status` to check registration, or `remove` to remove the menu entry.
Removing it does not delete the package, settings or saved colonies. Register
again if you move the package folder. The menu entry also offers the compact
taskbar observer as an application action. Login autostart is a separate
in-app setting and is never enabled by this script. A package folder containing
`%` cannot be registered by this optional menu command on the supported GIO
launcher; move the package to a folder without that character first.

Use ./nanoant-native --taskbar to begin as the live compact observer above the
taskbar; OPEN FARM expands the same process and colony. Sandbox exposes time,
weather and rate controls. Real mode keeps the calendar, daylight, natural
weather and simulation rate locked while retaining physical ant-farm actions.

./nanoant-mcp is a local stdio MCP server for AI-driven deterministic tests.
It uses the same terminal command and authoritative tick path as the desktop
application. Configure an MCP client with command ./nanoant-mcp and no args.

Desktop saves are stored below $XDG_DATA_HOME/nanoAnt/saves, falling back to
$HOME/.local/share/nanoAnt/saves. runtime-dependencies.txt records required
shared libraries. A compatible Vulkan or OpenGL/GLES graphics driver is still
required; GTK/AppIndicator supplies the Linux taskbar integration.

British English is the v0.1 source and fallback language. Complete later UI
catalogues are loaded from locales/ only when a matching complete Codex
catalogue exists in codex/. The licenses/ directory contains the nanoAnt
licence (all rights reserved), the Cascadia Mono OFL notice and the locked
third-party dependency licence inventory.

Wayland remains the default on ordinary Linux desktops. Under WSL the native
client automatically selects X11 because current WSLg Wayland can invalidate a
Vulkan surface during resize. That fallback requires the host package
libxkbcommon-x11-0 (or the distribution equivalent). Set
NANOANT_WINIT_BACKEND=x11 explicitly to use it on another X11 desktop.
